A Message from Naomi Bowman

We hope that this finds you and your team safe and healthy. While the effects of COVID-19 have had a heavy impact on all of us, we want to let you know that we are open for business and operating with our team remotely.

In the 1990s, our founder, Bill Wood, had one of the first RSI patents. I have personally worked remotely for more than 20 years and have long spoken of the ‘global-mobile workforce’. Now we are all living this reality and facing how to ensure business continuity. Today, our remote solutions allow you to connect and engage with your multilingual audience during these unprecedented times.

While most of you know us through onsite events, we have also been providing remote interpreting services for more than 25 years. Our remote solutions offer you a way to provide access and continue engaging with your multilingual audience.

We are here to help you continue to reach your multilingual audiences in the following ways:

·       Multilingual Platform Solutions for online meetings and webinars. We focus on technical integrity, security and standards to ensure successful outcomes. You can trust our expertise. We’re here to match you with a best-fit technology solution.

·       Remote Conference Interpreters, including RSI (remote simultaneous interpreting) and consecutive interpretation. We are leading the way in creating and documenting international best practices for RSI interpreters.

·       Interpreting for Pre-Recorded Content: Simultaneous Interpreting for videos that need additional language tracks.

·       AI Solutions for when human interpreters are not practical or possible. Including: AI conference interpreting solutions; voice to text and audio; devices for conversational interpreting, reception areas and community services. We believe in the appropriate use of Human-focused Artificial Intelligence.

·       Translation & Transcription Services: Video transcription; full service certified written translation, editing & proofing (TEP services).

For nearly 50 years, we have been connecting our clients to their international audiences. It’s what we do. The venues are empty for now, but that does not mean your business has to stop. We can help you engage your global audience safely and effectively. Our team is here to assist you with this virtual transition. We are in this together. Please let us know how you are doing and how we can support you. We look forward to connecting with you soon.

Sincerely,

Naomi Bowman, CEO

We Care About What We Do

This week we remember our founder and industry pioneer, Bill Wood (deceased March 2019). As an innovator, Bill always strived to provide our clients and industry with the best interpretation solutions. He lived by his motto: “We care about what we do.”

In 1972, Bill helped to patent an early version of an FM receiver designed for the classroom and language labs. As he began using the technology in different settings, demand soon grew, and Bill transitioned to focusing his efforts on Simultaneous and Conference Interpretation.

Bill loved working with interpreters. He valued the human element of interpretation and is known for his quote, “Interpreters will not be replaced by technology, they will be replaced by interpreters who use technology.”

He worked with interpreters to create booths and interpreter stations that were truly designed for the end-user, the interpreter. Features on his stations were eventually patented.

Bill was a pioneer in remote simultaneous interpretation. He had early patents for key switching technology used in the hospital setting. Early remote simultaneous interpretation projects included the Shuttle Transport System Mission with Japan in 1992 and the 1994 FIFA World Cup.

As we face these unprecedented times, our team honors Bill’s legacy by continuing his commitment to excellence. Like Bill, we care about what we do.

Passing of Company Founder, Bill Wood

Bill Wood profile picture.jpg

It is with great sadness that we write to inform you that our beloved company founder, Bill Wood, passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2019.

An innovative and passionate leader, Bill devoted his life to the field of interpretation. He made numerous contributions to the industry, including patented technology. Although he was a champion of change and innovation, he deeply valued the human element of interpretation. He is often quoted as saying, “Interpreters will not be replaced by technology, they will be replaced by interpreters who use technology.” Bill’s passion, kindness and generous spirit have had a profound and lasting impact on the many lives that he has touched. He is the reason why so many of us have spent our professional careers in the language service industry.

We are truly grateful for Bill’s efforts over the last 47 years and will honor his passing by continuing his legacy and commitment to excellence.

On behalf of our company, we offer our condolences to Bill’s daughter and our company president, Naomi Bowman, and the rest of the Wood family.
